Why this angel was left here
The building was deliberately designed so the Tetons themselves become part of the visitor center. Inside, markers embedded in the floor line you up with individual mountain peaks visible through the huge windows. The center is meant to connect people not just with the landscape, but with themes of people, preservation, Indigenous history, and our relationship with the natural world. 
And another cool detail: it opened in 2007, is 22,000 square feet, and was created through an unusually large public-private partnership, with $13.6 million in private gifts helping build the first phase.
